Adobe Air™ TextMate Bundle

April 2nd, 2008 | General, Development

In this article I’m assuming you are new to Air. I’m also assuming you use TextMate and you want a shortcut for Previewing and Packaging your Air apps.

Just so happens I have a bundle for you! Thanks and credit to fellow Nashvillian Tyler Hall at Sitening for creating the original Apollo bundle. I just took what he had done and updated it for Air v1.0.

First off, make sure you have the Air SDK installed. I put my SDK in /Applications/AdobeAir on my Mac so if you want this bundle to work out-of-the-box make sure that’s where yours is too. If not you can edit the bundle with a custom path.

Step 1 - Get the Bundle

Download Air.tmbundle.zip

Step 2 - Install the Bundle

Unzip it and double click on Air.tmbundle to automatically add it to your TextMate bundles.

Step 3 - Use it

I created a simple base project to start my Air apps. Just download SampleAirProject.zip, unzip it, rename it to something of your chosing, and open your newly renamed project directory in TextMate. Open the application.xml file inside and go to Bundles -> Air -> Package Preview. Hello World!

Finally, once you’re ready to share your new Air app with others just go to Bundles -> Air -> Package Self-signed to Package it with a Self-signed certificate. Note: Air application require certificates to Package them. For a commercially available app you’re want to learn a little more about how Air handles certificates.

Hope this helps some of you. Leave any questions or comments below.

  1. I hate putting my SDK there. What can you do about that?

  2. I followed your directions and everything worked as described. I think this will be a big help in developing AIR apps. Thanks.
